This is better with pictures, but reflects my current mood
"We all live in a state of profound isolation. No other human being can ever know what it's like to be you from the inside. And, no amount of reaching out to others can ever make them feel exactly what you feel. All media of communication are a by-product of our sad inability to communicate directly from mind to mind. Sad, of course, because nearly all problems in human history stem from that inability."

Scott McCloud, Understanding Comics

That sounds pretty ridiculous to me.

"I'm sad because nobody can read my mind!"

If we could all read each others' minds, we'd become hive critters without a central brain. Imagine the amount of mental overload you would experience if you could sense other peoples' thoughts. Your mind would be overflown with peoples' primal urges. Very little would get ever accomplished, imagined, or invented due to to sheer volume of thought. And then, in order to make any progress, we would have to all the shared thoughts out and supress them to the point where they weren't overwhelming.

Think about it, when you're in a relationship, how much of your though process is dedicated to the other person's needs. Imagine that multiplied by 8 billion, but forcefully inserted into your thoughts.

And even then, once supressed, we'd have to constantly keep them supressed. In fact, that could be the very case right now in humans.
